Photo Flash: First Look at the Cast of GableStage's CASA VALENTINA by Harvey Fierstein
by BWW News Desk - June 02, 2015
In 1962 most men went to the Catskills to escape the summer heat, but others went to an inconspicuous bungalow colony that catered to a very special clientele: heterosexual men whose favorite pastime was dressing and acting as women. Based on actual events, this moving, insightful and delightfully entertaining new work offers a glimpse into the lives of a group of unforgettable characters as they search for acceptance and happiness in their very own Garden of Eden.

SISTERS OF SWING Set for Stage Door Theatre, 6/5-7/12
by Carol Kassie - May 27, 2015
They sold over 75 million records, nine of them gold. They had more Top Ten hits than the Beatles or Elvis. Until the advent of The Supremes, The Andrews Sisters - Patty, Maxene, and Laverne - were the most imitated of all female singing groups; they are still one of the best-selling female vocal groups of all time.  Sisters of Swing, which will run from June 5th through July 12th at the Stage Door Theatre, details the fascinating journey of these three sisters from their early days in vaudeville through their success in 'the big time'.

BWW Reviews: BETRAYAL at Zoetic Stage
by Roger Martin - May 24, 2015
The Anatomy of Adultery. Playing the pauses in a Pinter play (sorry) is an art more than ably demonstrated by this cast. There's a constant edge to every second of the show and well done, Zoetic, for that.

BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE Runs Now thru 6/21 at Stage Door Theatre
by Carol Kassie - May 15, 2015
Gillian Holroyd is a witch.  She can cast spells and perform feats of magic, but she can't fall in love.  And when she casts a spell over her attractive neighbor - partly to keep him away from an old rival, and partly because she is attracted to him - this slight 'imperfection' leads to a number of unintended and somewhat tricky situations.  Although when John Van Druten's supernatural hit, Bell, Book and Candle debuted on Broadway in 1951 it was billed as, and thought of as a light comedy, it delivers a message that is still relevant today.  The play touches on the importance of appearances, on the dynamics of a close circle of friends, on pretending and secrets, and on passing as something one is not.  Bell, Book and Candle will open at Stage Door Theatre on May 15th, and run through June 21st.
