FLORIDA THEATRICAL ASSOCIATION'S

2006-2007 BROADWAY'S CLASS ACT

Florida Theatrical Association will hold auditions for the South Florida company of their 2006-2007 youth performance troupe, BROADWAY'S CLASS ACT. The purpose of this project is to support and aid the mission of Broadway In Florida. Types of projects will include performances throughout the State of Florida, fundraising, and education of the public on arts awareness and Broadway Across America. This will mark the fifth year for the program based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Students should be freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors as of the fall 2006 in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade County. In addition, each student should prepare the following:

One minute vocal selection with tape or CD

accompaniment (no vocals.) Broadway music preferred.

One letter of recommendation from a teacher and copy of

school transcripts.

A 500-word essay explaining your interest in the arts.

A headshot or recent photograph of yourself.

A performance resume (if student has one.)

Wear clothes and shoes that will allow you to move freely.

If you have dance shoes of any kind, please bring them. CONTACT: To register for an audition, please call Matt May at 954-626-7842. Auditions begin promptly at 10:00 AM. Auditioning students should arrive by 9:30 AM to warm up and fill out paperwork.

Those auditioning should expect to participate in dance, movement and improvisational exercises to show their creative and expressive abilities. BROADWAY'S CLASS ACT will rehearse the week of July 31st (mandatory for all members) and spend at least one day a month traveling to schools or in rehearsal. Weekend and evening performances are also expected. The commitment length of the performance troupe is one year. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and will learn numbers from the upcoming season of Broadway shows as part of the troupe repertoire of song, dance and improvisation.

Broadway Across America is the nationwide Broadway marketing and customer service initiative that serves as a mark of quality, ensuring consumers that they are seeing first-rate touring Broadway shows, often directly from the original Broadway producers.  

Broadway In Florida is presented in arrangement with Florida Theatrical Association, a non-profit civic organization with a volunteer board of trustees established to ensure the continued presentation of quality national touring Broadway productions in Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and Miami Beach. Florida Theatrical Association was founded with the purpose of educating and developing new audiences and to encourage and preserve the presentation of touring Broadway theatre.
