Winner of the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a 1991 Tony Award for Best Play, the New York Post called this “the best play Simon ever wrote,” a comedy, a drama, AND a hit. In celebration of Neil Simon’s 85th birthday, the Adobe has decided to produce his most successful play.
This is a memory play set in Yonkers in 1942 in a world dominated by WWII. Two young boys, Jay and Artie, are left in the care of their stern grandmother and mentally challenged Aunt Bella. Complications ensue in the form of Bella’s secret romance and Uncle Louie, a small-time hoodlum. As Newsweek wrote, “Laughter and tears . . . come together in a new emotional truth.”
