Cabaret is set in the seedy Kit Kat Klub as the 1920s are drawing to a close in Berlin, Germany. The Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience to the show and assures them that, whatever their troubles, they will forget them at the Cabaret. T he story revolves around the English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young American writer, Cliff Bradshaw with a sub-plot involving the doomed romance between German boarding house owner, Fräulein Schneider, and her elderly suitor Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor. The Klub and its changes foreshadow the ominous political changes with the rise to power of the Nazis.
