Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC), continuing its year-long 40th Anniversary celebration, returns to the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall to headline the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s prestigious Sounds About Town concert series on Saturday, April 4, 2026, 2:00 PM. More than 300 children from six LACC’s choirs take the stage for “Looking Back, Looking Forward,” a special program taking the audience on a journey through four centuries of music, seamlessly weaving together timeless classics and modern works that have shaped the Chorus’s history.
The vibrant concert, both a tribute to the Chorus’ past and a joyful celebration of what lies ahead, includes beloved audience favorites from every decade of LACC’s existence as well as new gems that point toward an exciting future. Highlights include music from Bach, Verdi, Rachmaninoff, Allister MacGillivray, Handel, and Schubert, as well as folk tunes from across the globe, and more.
LACC Artistic Director Malvar-Ruiz conducts the Chamber Singers, Chorale, Concert Choir, and Combined Choirs. Fred Meads leads the Intermediate Choir. Eric Lifland conducts the Apprentice Choir and the Young Men’s Ensemble, which provides an opportunity for boys with changing voices to continue to sing through the vocal transition.
Malvar-Ruiz says, “Los Angeles Children’s Chorus is thrilled to be a part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Sounds About Town concert series. The orchestra has been one of LACC’s most ardent community partners since our inception. We are deeply grateful to the LA Phil for championing our young singers over the past four decades.”
Among the numerous highlights during their fruitful 40-year relationship, the Chorus appears on the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel’s 2022 GRAMMY Award-winning Deutsche Grammophon album, Mahler Symphony No. 8.
Los Angeles Children’s Chorus was formed in 1986, with just 50 young singers who were recruited for a local performance with the William Hall Chorale of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, a moving anti-war manifesto that prominently features the ethereal sound of a children’s choir to underscore the tragic impact of war on the young. Since that fateful engagement, LACC has never looked back, growing into a cultural powerhouse. LACC is now widely recognized as one of the world’s preeminent youth choirs, lauded as “hauntingly beautiful” (Los Angeles Times), and “one of the true artistic gems of Los Angeles” (Gustavo Dudamel). The Choir annually serves more than 500 children ages 6–18 from 40+ communities across Southern California through its seven choirs and two first experience classes, First Experiences in Singing and Next Experiences in Singing. More than 30% of choir members receive scholarships.
