Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana is one of the nation’s most prominent flamenco and Spanish dance companies. Honoring the traditions of flamenco while pushing the art form in new directions, co-founder Carlota Santana promotes flamenco as a living art form and a vital part of Hispanic heritage earning her the title of “The Keeper of Flamenco” by Dance Magazine. Under her direction, the company has premiered more than 20 original works, offering numerous commissions to flamenco artists from Spain and the United States.
Flamenco Vivo latest work, Voces del Sur, offers a glimpse into the mysterious land of Andalucía, the “cradle of flamenco, “ that is home to a diverse group of cultures, each with their own language and traditions. Arabic, Gypsy and Sephardic Jewish influences have blended together over the centuries and are seen today in the extraordinary rich diversity of art, literature, dance and music. From these many “voces” (voices) Flamenco Vivo’s dancers and musicians pay tribute to the unique culture of Andalucía as well as the greater Hispanic/Latino people.
