Award-winning composer and sound artist Yvette Janine Jackson premieres new music with her Radio Opera Workshop, an ensemble that integrates electronics, acoustic instruments, voice and images. Jackson's radio operas weave together composed and improvised soundscapes into immersive experiences that journey through shared histories and speculative futures.
Jackson, a Los Angeles native and recipient of the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts, collaborates with Radio Opera Workshop artists Mattie Barbier, Dawn Norfleet, Jessica Shand and Ava Porter. Jackson founded Radio Opera Workshop to perform her compositions, debuting at the Venice Music Biennale in 2022.
The evening also features sound installations in the lobby and a post show conversation with the composer led by Tiffany E. Barber, Assistant Professor of African American Art at UCLA.
