An interactive original musical by StarKid Productions that parodies the video game series The Oregon Trail. In each show, the family members' names are picked from audience suggestions, and the audience chooses which character dies of dysentery. The wagon party includes Kyle Sanderson as Father, Sara Neal as Mother, Christina Jardine as Daughter, Annie Chase as Son, Nolan Monsibay as Grandpa, and Benjamin Cross in multiple roles. Madeline Hatfield serves as Understudy. Directed by Clint Foley, this production contains explicit content and language not suitable for children.
The Trail to Oregon! is an original musical produced by StarKid Productions (A Very Potter Musical, Nerdy Prudes Must Die, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals), first performed in Chicago in 2014. The musical parodies the video game series The Oregon Trail, which was developed in the 1970’s and widely produced by the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium (MECC) for the Apple II in 1985. It is the most historically accurate musical portraying the Oregon Trail to date.
Up Next Productions has chosen to tell this story about one man’s dreams to provide a better life for his family. The plot is heavily inspired by the mechanics and memes of the video game, and brought to life in hilarious scripted and unscripted flair. With 6 actors playing dozens of pioneers and personalities along the eponymous trail, backed by a 5-piece band fueling the drive for Manifest Destiny, this show is a fantastic example of Up Next’s mission to provide showcases for excellent artists, as well as our theme of telling stories about the making of art itself. By leaning into the improv aspects of the performers-as-characters and inherent audience participation, The Trail to Oregon! blends the passive perception of a live performance with the active role (and responsibility) of a Player playing a video game.
Kyle Sanderson is excited to be working with Up Next Productions for the first time. Theater Credits include Romeo & Juliet, Othello, Sense and Sensibility (Oregon Shakespeare Festival) Hairspray, The Prom, Something Rotten, It’s a Wonderful Life (Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center)
He wrote, directed and performed in A Challenging Evening, an original sketch comedy show at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
Sara Neal (she/her) is an LA-based actor and deviser, and she is thrilled to be making her Up Next Productions debut in one of her favorite musicals!
When she’s not fighting for her life on the Oregon Trail, you can catch her as the Queen at Medieval Times or as a wonderfully mediocre dungeon master for her DnD besties <3
Enjoy the show!
Christina is terrible at writing bios! She hopes you forgive her.
After her recent graduation from film school, Christina has been making her mark in the LA theatre scene. You may have seen her in Xanadu (Wisteria Theatre), I Love You Because (Chromolume Theatre), A Christmas Carol (Sonder Theatre Company). She’s also had the pleasure of pioneering some new and exciting original musicals and plays in 2025.
Earlier this year she returned to her film roots and starred in an upcoming horror short film (soon to be feature) called “Indigo Eyes.” You’ll also find her singing in concert gigs and cabarets around LA.
When she isn’t on stage or on set, you’ll find her playing video games, dying in DnD, shooting her bow at the archery range, or watching Doctor Who with her cat.
Christina is SO excited to be a part of this new journey, and hopefully not succumb to her rampant dysentery!
Annie Chase is beyond excited to fulfill her life’s passion to be a 7-year old boy. From the Gold Coast in Australia, she moved to Los Angeles to follow a silly little dream.
Notable credits are Shelly in Bat Boy, Heather Chandler in Heathers and Little Sally in Urinetown.
She is so grateful to be here with her wonderful support team.
Nolan Monsibay has played several elderly people on stage, but never an old man. To adequately prepare for this role, he visited an oracle who advertised a “100% accurate glimpse into the future – NO REFUNDS.”
He is a singer, music director, actor, and improvisor with an extensive performing and conducting background in jazz, choral music, and musical theatre.
He has most recently served as the Music Director for several productions at the Wisteria Theatre in North Hollywood and the Nocturne Theatre in Glendale.
Nolan earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education at California Lutheran University and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Washington Seattle.
Benjamin Cross (he/him) is a singer and composer based in North Hollywood who holds a B.M. in Vocal Arts from the University of Southern California.
Recent roles include Ja’far (u/s, Twisted), Professor Hidgens (The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals), Archibald Grosvenor (Patience), and Little Bat (Susannah). He has also performed opera chorus and supporting roles with Mission Opera (Cold Sassy Tree), USC Thornton Opera (Chérubin), The Opera Buffs Inc. (The Ballad of Baby Doe; Lucia di Lammermoor; La fille du régiment), Pacific Opera Project (Il Barbiere di Siviglia; The Pirates of Penzance), Pacific Symphony (Rigoletto), and Lyric Opera of Orange County (Roméo et Juliette). He is the current tenor section leader for the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church choir, and works seasonally as a professional caroler for The Voices of Christmas.
He is also a writer/composer/voice actor/sound designer for the animated YouTube series Battle for Dream Island and Inanimate Insanity.
Madeline is making her debut on the Wisteria stage and the Oregon Trail! You may have seen her along the trail in some things. Hmm let’s see… Maggie in A Chorus Line (Booth Tarkington Civic Theater). Margot in Legally Blonde (Vanity Theater). Margie in Night Of The Black Dahlia (world premiere at ZJT). Company member of The Great Smoky Mountain Murder Mystery Dinner Show.
She is happy to be a part of this great show and would like to thank her mom for always giving the best pep talks, her dad for being her biggest fan always and, for her little sister who is constantly humbling her.
Clint has been seen acting, directing, and clowning around Southern California since 2010. He founded Up Next Productions in early 2019 with [title of show] in Anaheim and Hollywood. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and Omicron variant resurgence, in 2021 his team safely produced tick, tick...BOOM! as a live performance and virtual behind-the-scenes series.
His original D&D parody musical Chances & Chalices premiered at The Chance Theater, where his performance ensemble Clown Collage has also appeared. His prior directing credits include projects at South Coast Repertory (4000 Miles, The Night Fairy, Future Thinking) and The Chance Theater (In The Heights), plus independent productions of I Love You Because, The Dead Guy, and All This Intimacy.
Currently he is the performance director for the annual Anime Los Angeles Masquerade and former chairman of events for UC Irvine’s Anteaters in the Arts alumni network. He is a writer and ensemble player in the voiceover collective Resonant Fables, as well as a Twitch streamer.
Bailey Bagheri has contributed to film, television, and theater productions in multiple ways including acting, directing, writing, casting, and producing. She is very excited to take on the role of Music Director for The Trail to Oregon with some of her fellow Anteaters.
After graduating from the University of California, Irvine, she moved back home to Los Angeles and has worked for many years at major studios, currently doing post production for movie trailers. She is thrilled to be returning to musical theater and is so proud to be a part of this production.
Robert Angell (he/they) is a theatrical jack-of-most-trades, and very excited to be stage managing The Trail to Oregon!
Over the years, they have had the pleasure and honor of working with the Immersive Art Collective, Booty Burlesque, Day for Knight Productions, and Project Nongenue.
They first went to Oregon via train, shooting zero buffalo and losing zero oxen along the way. (Very different from their average Oregon Trail playthrough.)
On the rare occasion they aren’t in a theater of some sort, they are usually writing, whether that’s prose or video game narrative or poetry or some form of script.
Contrary to popular rumors, he attended Kenyon College, not UCI.
Nyah Vollmar is ecstatic to be working on The Trail To Oregon! A lifelong fan of musicals, this is her first time working on one as a crew member.
She is a singer-songwriter with multiple EPs out on all music platforms, her favorites being the teen angst-infused alternative rock EP, Goodbye, Adolescence and the more somber, stripped back, Liminal.
