International City Theatre virtually presents an intimate, emotionally powerful musical by Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown that ingeniously deconstructs a five-year love affair. A young up-and-coming novelist falls in love with a struggling actress. Their story is told almost entirely through song, using an intercutting time line device: His songs start as they first get to know each other and move forward to the end of their marriage, while hers begin as the marriage dissolves, moving backwards in time to the beginning of their love. I decided to speak with Wendy on her process for creating the play, being acknowledged as a best new play in such a prestigious competition, why she decided to hold the world premiere at ICT, and how she hopes audiences will connect with its story about healing, hope, and compassion when someone you love has committed a terrible crime.

Established on the campus of Long Beach City College in 1985, ICT moved to its current performing home, the Beverly O’Neill Theater at the downtown Long Beach Performing Arts complex in 1996.
