Sketches from the Edge of Flamenco at Thymele Arts

NY Award-Winning Flamenco/Film Production Premieres in East Hollywood

On Saturday, October 24th, at 7:00 PM, Image Quilt Dance Theater will present the Los Angeles premiere of Sketches from the Edge of Flamenco at Thymele Arts, 5481 Santa Monica Blvd.

Written and directed by Omonike Akinyemi—a two-time New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow and winner of the 2026 Shaping the Future Award—the production arrives in LA following a successful New York City premiere.

This intimate, cabaret-style experience breaks the mold of traditional theater by blending live performance, film, surreal humor, and a volatile, contemporary take on flamenco.

A few unique elements that may interest your readers:

Ballet Hispanico Alumni: The show features live, on-stage performances by Omonike Akinyemi and Angelica Mondol Viaña, both former performers with the prestigious Ballet Hispanico of New York.

A Multi-Sensory Twist: Moving beyond tradition, the production incorporates live, avant-garde drumming by skilled percussionist Mounanou Badila to challenge standard flamenco rhythms.

Cultural Fusion: To complete the intimate experience, the $30 ticket price includes light Nigerian refreshments (such as puff puff and jollof rice) catered locally by Mayowa! Kitchen.

Given the highly visual, multi-disciplinary nature of the show and its focus on identity and diaspora stories, we believe this will deeply resonate with Los Angeles theatergoers and arts enthusiasts.
