An ethereal journey through grief, quiet joy and transcendence, to recognize a theme universal beyond time: humanity’s search for peace. To create his widely-celebrated 20th century Requiem, Duruflé blended the music of ancient Gregorians with the rich harmonic language of twentieth-century French music. Composed across four iterations over seven years during and after World War II, the work reflects a deeply spiritual, comforting meditation on death rather than a terrifying one. The Long Beach Camerata Singers will present this masterwork on March 14, 2027 at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Long Beach. This concert will also feature an organist and orchestra.

Founded in 1966, the Long Beach Camerata Singers is a choral and music education nonprofit that believes music is a force for peace, and seeks to enrich and transform the lives of performers and local community through excellence in program, innovative programming and arts education.

In performance, Camerata Singers presents two ensembles: the large pro-core 80-voice chorus and the Catalyst Chamber Ensemble, a 14-voice all professional a Capella group. LBCS also currently presents two education programs: the award-winning Camerata Children's Music Academy, which provides foundational vocal music instruction for children ages 3 to 5 through the YMCA and Long Beach City College Child Development Programs; and Peace4Youth, a social justice–oriented music curriculum presented in Long Beach Unified School District middle and high schools.

This season, Camerata celebrates six-decades of continuous operation and their shared 10-year anniversary with Grammy-Award winning conductor and Artistic Director, James K. Bass.
