On a hot summer night in Texas, Vernita Manifold summons her two daughters down to the bayou with a secret too big to keep. The richest, meanest man in town is dead, and the Manifold women know more than they’re saying. As secrets begin to surface, the bonds between the women, their town, and the legacy of their ancestors all come to a head. Black Cypress Bayou is a hilarious, suspenseful world premiere about loyalty, healing, and comeuppance.

West Coast Premiere of FAT HAM and More Set For Geffen Playhouse's 2023/24 Season
April 25, 2023 Geffen Playhouse has announced the seven productions that will make up the 2023/2024 season in its Gil Cates and Audrey Skirball Kenis Theaters. Guided by the vision and funding of Mrs. Audrey Skirball Kenis, the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse was built in September 2005 as part of the Geffen Playhouse's $17 million renovation. The Audrey's fixed and variable seating (with a maximum capacity of 149) was inspired by the artistic desire for a flexible setting that accommodate the creative needs for works ranging from cabaret performances to world premieres. The result is a venue in which patrons are frequently treated to work from acclaimed artists in one of the most unique and intimate spaces in Los Angeles.
The Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater typically houses one-to-three season productions (running for four weeks or more) as well as special events including concerts, new play development workshops, and play readings.
