Cinderella at Jonesboro Performing Arts Center

Subject: The Academies of Jonesboro High School Choir Troupe is bringing the timeless enchantment of the magical fairy tale, Cinderella, to life and helping the foster kids of Arkansas have #shoesthatfit.


Prince charming is in search of the lovely princess who wore the glass slipper to the magical ball. He is trying to find the foot that will fit, but in the case of the Arkansas Based, The Academies of Jonesboro High School Choir Troupe, the fairy tale musical cast is working to find #Shoesthatfit foster children in Arkansas. With more than 500 children needing foster care at any one time in the region, there are plenty of stories that show the struggle of children living to find a foster home and not enough #shoesthatfit.
Often the children find themselves with only the clothes and shoes they have on when taken into care. The need for help prompted The Academies Choir program to begin partnering with Foster Care Advocates in 2015 to promote the needs of foster kids. In 2015, Pajamas were collected to go along with the themed musical, the Pajama Game. When choir director, Krisie Holmes, selected Cinderella for 2016, it seemed obvious, the philanthropy project would be collecting shoes for foster kids. (April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month).
The cast and crew of the musical are fully involved in the philanthropic efforts, hosting a tea party to promote the #shoesthatfit collection and the musical which will be presented April 14th-16th. Audience members are encouraged to bring #shoesthatfit to the performances and donations to the Academies of Jonesboro High School.
