SYNOPSIS: Set in 1962 Baltimore, HAIRSPRAY follows teenage Tracy Turnblad's dream to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program based on the real-life Buddy Deane Show. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight, leading to social change as Tracy campaigns for the show's integration. 

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: [TRACY TURNBLAD] Female, 18+ to play high school age, white. Our story's unsuspecting protagonist, she is large and in charge. Confident, talented, and incredibly determined.
