Position Overview:

In direct collaboration with the Costume Department Manager/Resident Costume Designer, the position is expected to assist with the build, sourcing, and execution of the costuming for 7 Mainstage Productions. Head of Wardrobe/Running Crew duties also assigned. Apprentice will take a lead role in the Dramatic Academy, Penobscot Theatre Company’s youth education program, as the Costume Designer for 3 fully realized youth productions, all staged in collaboration with Mainstage Programing under mentorship of the Resident Designer. Additional responsibilities and specific work schedule to be established between the Production Manager and Costume Shop Manager upon assessment of candidate’s individual skills and interests. Opportunity to extend contract through the Summer Season may be available.



Responsibilities:

-Daily Employment in Costume Shop

-Head of Wardrobe/Running Crew

-Assistant to the Resident Costume Designer

-Facilitating/Coordinating Laundry Schedules

-Costume Designer for Dramatic Academy



Staff and Reporting Relationships:

The Costume Shop Apprentice/Wardrobe Supervisor reports to the Costume Department Manager/Resident Costume Designer.



Qualifications and Skills:

This individual must display thorough job knowledge and understanding of the construction safety code, in addition to:

-Prior experience in a professional costume shop environment.

-Fluency in the terminology of the trade

-Skill, precision, and craftsmanship with hand and power tools

-Attention to detail

-Ability to multitask without compromising safety and quality

-Strong problem-solving skills

-Adept skills of organization and follow-through

-Strong work ethic and a sense of urgency

-Ability to communicate clearly when giving directions or interacting with staff, visiting artists, volunteers, students, and apprentices

-Ability to work collaboratively



Pay:

$400/wk + housing
