Bali Agung showcases the tragic and heroic story of the 12th century of King Sri Jaya Pangus, portraying the theatrical reenactment of his marriage to a Chinese Princess, Kang Ching Wei and his intertwined love affair with the Goddess of the lake Dewi Danu. This popular story still impact and inspire the lives of the Balinese people to this day. Up to this day, ‘Kang Ching Wie’ is revered as the Goddess of Prosperity ‘Ratu Ayu Subandar’. Her shrine can be found in merchants’ houses all over Bali. Goddess of the Lake ‘Dewi Danu’ the king’s consort is worshipped as a Goddess of Fertility, who provides sustenance and water for the entire island.
