Sense & Sensibility, a delightful romantic comedy by Kate Hamill, adapted from the novel by Jane Austen, opens May 29 and runs through June 13 at Theatre Southwest.
Kate Hamill's playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters – sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne – after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth and bold theatricality. Sense & Sensibility examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?
Directed by Vicky McCormick, Sense & Sensibility features the talents of Elizabeth Ashley Walker, Lydia Mitchell, Alex Bui, Haylee Feng, Brian Heaton, Hayden Messamore, Bev Raney, Alice Rhoades, Bowen Shepard, and Helen Warwick.
Sense & Sensibility runs May 29 through June 13, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays, May 31 and June 7, at 3 pm, at TSW's new location (3939 Hillcroft, Suite 160).
