The Saaristo-ooppera ('Archipelago opera') company will be visiting with performances of the jazzy mini-opera Trouble in Tahiti by Leonard Bernstein.
The action in Leonard Bernstein's mini-opera Trouble in Tahiti is set in an American suburb in the 1950s. The story explores the relationship of an unhappily married couple, Dinah and Sam, and their hopes, lies, struggles and defeats. As in any proper drama, the painful becomes amusing, and identifying with the characters becomes a cathartic experience.
The music is provided by conductor and pianist Jari Hiekkapelto and a seven-member ensemble.
