Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

PREPARATION

Please prepare the following: 1. Either a traditional/spiritual gospel hymn OR an R&B/soul song from the 60s -70s. 2. A one minute contemporary comedic monologue that is written for a Black person to perform.

NOTE: All actors must be fully vaccinated and, if eligible, boosted.

A SINGER - Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), Black (with respect to the Diaspora). A strong singer with a wide range and great stage presence. Playing the tambourine is a plus.

A MAN TO PLAY PIANO - Male (cis, trans, or non-binary), 30- 40s. Black (with respect to the Diaspora). Has great piano skills.

THE ANCESTOR - Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 36 – 55, Black (with respect to the Diaspora). A spiritual character who disappears behind an isolated forest and is closely associated with the sisters. She runs in and out of the forest, throughout the performance space and conducts important rituals. Note: Should have a strong movement background.

FEMME SINGER 4 - Femme and/or Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 20-35, Black (with respect to the Diaspora). A STRONG singer who is comfortable with spoken word and their spirituality. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

FEMME SINGER/DANCER 5 - Femme and/or Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 20-35, Afro-Latine. A STRONG singer and dancer who is comfortable with spoken word and their spirituality. Playing the tambourine is a plus. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

FEMME DANCER 6 - Femme and/or Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 20-35, Black (with respect to the Diaspora). A STRONG dancer who is comfortable with spoken word and their spirituality. Playing the tambourine is a plus. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

FEMME SINGER 7 - Femme and/or Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 20 – 35, Black (with respect to the Diaspora). A STRONG singer who is comfortable with spoken word and their spirituality. Playing the tambourine is a plus. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

FEMME SINGER 8 - Femme and/or Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), over 55, Black (with respect to the Diaspora). A STRONG singer who is comfortable with spoken word and their spirituality. Playing the tambourine is a plus. THIS ROLE IS CAST.

FEMME DANCER 11 - Femme and/or Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 36 – 55, Black (with respect to the Diaspora). A STRONG dancer who is versatile in all forms of contemporary dance, and their spirituality. Playing the tambourine is a plus.

FEMME SINGER 12 - Femme and/or Female (cis, trans, or non-binary), 18+ to play 15 – 19 years old, Afro-Latine. A STRONG dancer who is versatile in all forms of contemporary dance, and their spirituality. Playing the tambourine is a plus. Note: MUST SPEAK FLUENT SPANISH.
