BREAKDOWN

DIRECTOR’S NOTE ON CASTING: Seeking a diverse and inclusive company for all roles in this production. Creative team encourages submissions from individuals (including, but not limited to) of all ethnicities, gender identities, and body types for all roles in this production. The only requirement is the possession of a “funny bone” in order to deliver this fast-paced Mel Brooks comedy.

SEEKING:

[FREDERICK FRANKENSTEIN] Early 30s-40s. A famous scientist dedicated to work and is innocent of the world at large. Intent to be distanced from a notorious grandfather whose scientific legacy is less than legitimate. Combines the manic energy of Danny Kaye with the charm and elegance of Fred Astaire. Bari-tenor singing voice up to G. Sings “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

[ELIZABETH] 30s. Frederick’s spoiled and self-centered fiancée. Soprano singing voice up to High C. Tap dancing is a plus. Music has a “comic-operetta-ish” sensibility that reflects the songs of Romberg, Herbert, Friml, and early Kern.

[IGOR] 30-40s. A hunchback servant at the Frankenstein estate in Transylvania. Baritone singing voice to F#. Has the nimble charm to sing English music hall style songs and the show-biz savvy of Jimmy Durante. Tap dancing is a plus.

[INGA] 20s–Early 30s. A young local Transylvanian who becomes Dr Frankenstein’s eager assistant. Oblivious to a natural sexuality and appeal. Soprano singing voice up to High E with belt to D-flat. Tap dancing is a plus.

[INSPECTOR KEMP & BLIND HERMIT] 40s-50s. Inspector Kemp is the head of the local police with a highly developed sense of power and a keen desire to keep order in the town. The Blind Hermit is a recluse who enjoys a meal with Frankenstein’s monster. Bass-Baritone singing voice to high F. Demonstrates very dramatic singing chops in terms of volume and the break-your-heart quality of a singer like Al Jolson in his prime.

[THE MONSTER] 30s-40s. The monster created when Dr. Frankenstein performs the famous brain transplant. Bass-baritone with good legit sound up to E-flat. Physically imposing, character is preferably over 6’2”. Tap dancing is a plus.

[FRAU BLUCHER] ROLE CAST.
