Equity actors for roles in Undermain Theatre's 2022-23 Season (see breakdown).
North Texas-based performers of all ages, ethnicities, and gender identities are encouraged to submit.
PREPARATION
Actors will be expected to perform a monologue from a classic or contemporary play of
no more than 3 minutes in length. No self-written material, please. Actors will also be
expected to provide a current headshot and resume (8” x 10” and stapled, please).

At the Frasier household, preparations for Grandma’s birthday party are underway, Beverly is holding onto her sanity by a thread to make sure this party is perfect, but her sister is drinking, her husband can’t seem to listen, her brother is MIA, her daughter is a teenager and maybe nothing is what it seems in the first place...Fairview begins as an easygoing comedy about a middle-class black family gathering for a birthday dinner and ends somewhere else entirely. A play about race, though not only about race, it ultimately brings the audience into the actors’ community to face the deep-seated prejudices of our society.

Nora is a curious writer who seeks to understand her friend and collaborator Katherine’s obsession with 20th-century French philosopher and activist Simone Weil. As their discussion deepens, Nora and Katherine embody scenes from Simone’s life in an attempt to communicate with her across time and space. Feeding on Light is based on playwright Lenora Champagne’s personal relationship and discussions with Undermain Theatre’s late Founding Artistic Director Katherine Owens, to whom the play is dedicated.
Roles:
Simone Weil—A philosopher and mystic. Thin, awkward, clumsy, insistent, but can at times achieve an ethereal serenity. She is a chain smoker. Sometimes she lights a cigarette and reflects for a while, as she thinks about something. Any ethnicity.
Katherine—A seeker, an artist with a practical outlook and clear vision, a woman with a lovely voice. Any ethnicity.
Nora—A writer, a joker. She is self-referential and skeptical at times, but respects both Katherine and Simone. Any ethnicity.

He’s Born, He’s Borne explores a primitive, medieval world which exists outside of actual human history. The inhabitants of the world of the play are agrarian in nature and all too human in their battles against suffering and death. The characters are agrarian peasants who work the land. When a young child falls from a tree, the angel of death comes to claim him for the underworld. They embark on a quest to hide the child with help from two angels who are overseers of the stars and planets of the night sky to help protect the child and challenge death’s supremacy. They seek to create a world where children may be born into life everlasting.

The Way She Spoke, by Isaac Gómez

A haunting and theatrical one-woman play, The Way She Spoke travels from a New York stage to the treacherous streets of Juárez, Mexico, where thousands of women have been murdered in an epidemic of violence that has yet to stop. Written by Isaac Gómez based on his intimate interviews, the play is a raw and riveting exploration of responsibility: one playwright's journey to give voice to a city of women silenced by violence, fear and a world that has turned a deaf ear to their stories.
Roles:
The Actress—Mexican American, Tejana, or Chicana, female, 20’s to 40's.
Requirement for proof of vaccination/negative test.
Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide one of the following prior to entry into the venue:
- Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.
Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. The time spent unmasked should be as minimal as possible. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth). If the risk level for Dallas County is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions Revised March 14, 2022 may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.
We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms. Additional information required in notice:
Holding/Audition room information:
The audition room is 5,000 square feet and can accommodate no more than 50 individuals at a time.
The holding room is 1,380 square feet and can accommodate no more than 38 individuals at a time.
