On a California mountaintop in 1867 near the Transcontinental Railroad, Chinese “coolie” laborers strike to protest low wages and long hours. Faced with the “Gold Mountain's” promises as well as its betrayals, two workers find their humanity in the theatrical traditions of their homeland.

Note: Actors must be able movers. Both roles are very physical and physically comic.
Lone:
Lone is an Asian (Chinese) man, 20-30. Railroad worker in 1867 California. Prideful, disciplined, uncompromising, derisive and mocking of those who don’t meet his standards. Must appear an expert in Chinese Opera movement and dance.
Ma:
Ma is an Asian (Chinese) man, 18-25. Railroad worker in 1867 California. Optimistic, naïve, a dreamer; captivated by the beauty of Chinese Opera. Starts as a novice in it, but achieves a rough competence by the end.
