BREAKDOWN

White Noise by Suzan-Lori Parks
Directed by Reginald L. Douglas
First Rehearsal: December 14, 2021
Scheduled Production Dates: January 12, 2022 - February 20, 2022
Possible Ex. Close: March 20, 2022

Setting:
The action takes place in a thriving city throughout Leo and Dawn’s apartment, Misha and Ralph’s apartment, and an empty bowling alley. Present-day.

All roles require partial nudity, participation in sexual situations, and use of heightened racialized language. An intimacy choreographer will be hired to help establish brave boundaries and a comfortable, actor-centered process.

Seeking:
LEO – early 30’s; male; Black – an artist with insomnia. Planning to propose to Dawn; best friends with Ralph; Misha’s ex-boyfriend. A dreamer with a big heart and sense of humor, Leo’s identity shatters after a racial incident with a police officer. Rich emotional depth masked by a chill and cool vibe.

DAWN – early 30’s; female; white – a civil rights lawyer with a penchant to serve and save. In a long-term relationship with Leo; in love with Misha; has history with Ralph. Seeks success and affirmation from others, but at what cost?

MISHA – early 30’s; female; Black – a progressive livestream commentator with a program called “Ask a Black.” In a long-term relationship with Ralph; having an affair with Dawn; Leo’s ex-girlfriend and love. Patient and chill, but her bark has a bite.

RALPH – early 30’s; male; white – a writer/professor who just got passed over for a promotion, wrongfully so in his mind. Planning to propose to Misha; best friends with Leo; carnally connected to Dawn. Grew up poor but has come into a complicated inheritance that confuses and challenges his sense of self. An unhealthy balance between empathy and entitlement.

People, Places, and Things by Duncan Macmillan
Directed by David Muse
First Rehearsal: February 15, 2022
Scheduled Production Dates: March 16, 2022- April 24, 2022
Possible Ext. Close: May 8, 2022

Setting: Britian; now. A flurry of locations following Emma’s progression. A theater, a hospital, a childhood home, a club, but primarily a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.

Seeking:
EMMA – 30’s; female; any race – an actress and addict reluctantly entering treatment. Cagey, wry, witty. Compulsively lies about her identity, constantly playing a character, fervently searching for truth and a way out. Finds comfort and meaning in the stage, searching for it in her own life.

Actors in the following descriptions will be part of an active ensemble and play multiple roles. A strong arsenal of comedic and dramatic chops and stylings required as well as a positive attitude and playful, collaborative energy. All racial and ethnic backgrounds encouraged to audition.

DOCTOR/THERAPIST/MUM – 60’s; female – a doctor working at the clinic; therapist; Emma’s mother. Pragmatic and direct. All characters are different, but connected.

DAD/PAUL/ENSEMBLE – 60’s; male – Emma's father. A man of little words supporting his daughter the best he can. Also plays a patient of the center that has deep faith in God.

FOSTER/ENSEMBLE – late 30’s; male – A rehabilitated addict and graduate of the program that now works as an employee. Sympathetic, biting, and charming, he’s Emma’s first ally at the center.

MARK/ENSEMBLE – 30’s; male – a patient of the center. Witty, temperamental, and a tad haughty at times. A scream in search of a mouth.

MEREDITH/ENSEMBLE – 40’s-50’s; female – a patient of the center. A mother reconciling with her addiction and estrangement from her husband and stepchildren.

LAURA/ENSEMBLE – 30’s; female – a patient of the clinic. Hopeful for the future of her recovery, but haunted by past transgressions towards her sister.

SHAUN/ENSEMBLE – 30’s-40’s; male – a patient of the center. Former trader and gambler who pushed his limits, ultimately losing control and bankrupting a company.

JODI/ENSEMBLE – 40’s-50’s; female – a patient of the center. Looking for a way to enjoy life, choosing between her family or drinking.

T/ENSEMBLE – 30’s; male – a patient of the center. Born into addiction and propelled down a path of burglary and violence and now committed to recovery.

ENSEMBLE – 30's; female – a patient at the center. Also doubles as the character EMMA in moments of theatricality.

John Proctor Is the Villain by Kimberly Belflower
Directed by Marti Lyons
First Rehearsal: March 29, 2022
Scheduled Production Dates: April 27, 2022- June 5, 2022
Possible Ext. Close: June 19, 2022

Setting:
Northeast Georgia; Helen County High, the only high school in a one-stoplight town; spring semester junior year, 2019. Takes place in Mr. Smith's classroom.

ONLY ADULT ACTORS OVER 18 SHOULD SUBMIT. NO YOUTH WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Seeking:
CARTER SMITH – mid-30's; male; white – a teacher. A former golden boy, but one of those rare smart and sensitive ones. Now he’s a great teacher: charming, engaging, goofy.

SHELBY HOLCOMB – 16; female; any race – a student. Her brain works faster than her mouth, but her mouth works pretty dang fast. People have always underestimated her.

BETH POWELL – 17; female; any race – a student. Nervous and ambitious and enthusiastic. Kind of like if Rory Gilmore and Paris Geller had a baby and raised her in the Deep South.

NELL SHAW – 16; female; person of color – a student. From Atlanta. Grounded, sincere, and genuinely curious about the world. A good judge of character and a quick study.

IVY WATKINS – 17; female; any race – a student. Fiercely loyal; well-intentioned; kindhearted. From old Southern money. Resist the urge to play her as a mean girl.

RAELYNN NIX – 16; female; any race – a student. A cheerleader type who has always lived her life by other peoples’ standards. Razor-sharp but has no idea – until she does.

MASON ADAMS – 17; male; any race – a student. On the basketball team. He’s never really tried at school or maturity before, and he’s surprised by how good it feels. Earnest and affable.

LEE TURNER – 16; male; white – a student. A Carhart-wearing good ol’ boy. Deeply insecure and without the tools to deal with it. He’s always been good at getting what he wants.

BAILEY GALLAGHER – 24; female; any race – a counselor. Sweet in all the ways Southern women are supposed to be, but there’s more than meets the eye. This is her first real job out of college, and she really cares about succeeding for the students and herself.

The Hot Wing King by Katori Hall
Directed by Steve H. Broadnax III

Setting:
Present day Memphis, Dwayne and Cordell’s home. The kitchen, the living room, the back yard, the guest room.

Seeking:
CORDELL – 30’s; male; Black – the head chef of the clique. Recently emerged from the closet to cohabitate with the love of his life, Dwayne. Highly sensitive to anything that threatens his and Dwayne’s connection and fighting for their future by any means necessary. Strong comedic chops and emotional depth required.

DWAYNE – 30’s; male; Black – might not be the head chef, but is the head of the household. Shy but strong in his convictions. Holds Cordell and everyone down. Strong comedic chops and emotional depth required.

ISOM – late 20’s; male; Black – the life of the party. Playlists includes gospel and trap and that’s exactly how he talks. Has an on-again, off-again thing with Big Charles, but don’t ask him about it. Strong comedic chops and emotional depth required.

BIG CHARLES – 40’s; male; Black – an old friend. Observant, laid-back, the rock of the crew. Has a lot of wisdom about love but can’t always follow his own advice. Has an on-again, off-again thing with Isom and he’ll tell you all about it. Strong comedic chops and emotional depth required.

EVERETT EJ – 16; male; Black – Dwayne’s nephew. Uses humor and bravado to hide his need for love and security. In need of guidance and a new home. Strong comedic chops and emotional depth required.

TJ – 35; male; Black – Everett’s father and an outsider in Dwayne’s home. A long-time dealer who is “about that life.” Struggling to be the father that he wants to be, but damn is he going to try. Strong comedic chops and emotional depth required.
