Breakdown
STOP THE TEMPO By Gianina Carbinariu Directed by Matt Torney Three alienated young Romanians, RONALDO, MARIA, and PAULA, can't find a way to fit into the 'new' Bucharest which has changed utterly since the fall of Communism. Lost in a sea of neon billboards, shopping malls, nightclubs, macdonalds, new cars, new clothes, new people, they can't take it anymore. It's time to tear it down. It's time to STOP THE TEMPO. Characters: RONALDO: a 23 year old Romanian guy who is trying to become a techno DJ. He's just lost his regular gig and his girlfriend, and feels he's not cool enough to make it. He's starting to hate the clubs full of fake people. He can't take it anymore and needs something, anything to wake him up and give his life meaning. His edgy and cool mask hides a vulnerable boy beneath (Ability to beatbox would be a big plus) PAULA: A 25 year old punkish lesbian who used to love nightclubbing. She's sick of her too cool advertising job selling anything and everything to the 'New' Romania. Now her girlfriend's run off to London with some guy, and she's had enough. She wants to burn it all down. She's strong willed, and doesn't take shit from anybody. MARIA: A 27 year old professional girl who works three jobs, has an apartment, a car, and is a poster girl for success in post communist Bucharest. There's only one problem. She's no idea what she's working for. She can't find a guy who's not married, and it all feels empty. She wants to be young and free, but she doesn't know how. A bit shy, a bit naive, but hungry for something new.
