BREAKDOWN
[ANTOINE] Male Identifying, 19, any ethnicity. He is looking after his family’s land, and work at their mill after his father passed. Now burdened with the responsibility of being the man of the house, he is not one to stir up trouble until his friend Bernadette inspires him to take a stand for what he feels is right.
[DEAN PEYRAMALE] Male Identifying, 30-50, any ethnicity. Spiritual, caring; wants to do the right thing; the new guy in town so doesn’t know how to assert himself at the beginning, but he, inspired by Bernadette, also finds his strength.
[SISTER VAUZOUS] Female Identifying, 40-70, any ethnicity. Devout, rigid; she wants to be a role model for her students but the only way she knows how to do that is through strict discipline and tough love. She loves God and believes deeply and organizes her whole existence around religious devotion.
[PAPA, FRANCOIS SOUBIROUS] Male Identifying, 35-45, any ethnicity. He was once so handsome and strong and charismatic. The loss of his mill and the current poverty of his family makes him ashamed, guilty, and resentful. His only pleasure now is drink, but it didn’t used to be that way.
[MAMA, LOUISE SOUBIROUS] Female Identifying, 35-45, any ethnicity. Tough as nails. Keeps the family together in the hard times. She cares about the Soubirous social standing in the community and their moral standing in the eyes of God. She doesn’t have time to be lovey-dovey: she’s got work to do.
