APPOINTMENTS

Sign-ups for auditions start on Monday, February 26th. For registration information and to set up an appointment visit: https://njtheatrealliance.org/annual-combinedauditions . At registration, NJTA will require you to submit your headshot and resume digitally in advance of your audition. Headshots and resumes will be placed in a virtual book that will be distributed to theatre representatives attending. The deadline to register is March 11th, 2024.

SEEKING

Equity actors for roles within various NJ-area theatres' seasons. Actors will be auditioning for multiple theatres at these auditions.

If any Equity Theatre is participating in fulfilment of part of their Equity Audition requirements, that theatre's breakdown info will be attached to this notice.

New Jersey Theatre Alliance (NJTA), the service organization for the state and region’s 40 professional theatres, will hold auditions in Enlow Recital Hall on the campus of Kean University in Hillside, NJ on Monday, March 18th from 10:00am-5:00pm for Equity performers, and Tuesday, March 19th from 10:00am-5:00pm for Non-Equity performers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be seen by multiple theatres at once. Representatives from our member theatres will follow up with actors directly if they are interested in working with them.

Actors of color and actors with disabilities are encouraged to audition.

Local New Jersey actors are encouraged to audition.

PREPARATION

Please prepare EITHER a brief monologue (not to exceed two minutes) OR a brief song (not to exceed two minutes) OR 16-bars of a song and a one-minute monologue. If singing, bring sheet music; an accompanist is provided all day.

ESSPY

SYNOPSIS: A comic-drama about a young medical student embarking on a journey he never expected.

SEEKING:

Dr. Mendoza – CAST. Filipina female, 50s, with an officious manner

Anu Shilpa – CAST. Indian-American female who ages from late 20s to mid 30s over the course of the play, going from a new Standardized patient to an experienced one; An actor who is not afraid to say what she thinks.

William Chen – CAST. Taiwanese-American male who ages from mid 20s to early 30s over the course of the play, starting as an awkward first year to a seasoned professional; a med student whose intelligence sometimes overshadows his bedside manner.

THE TWO HANDER

SYNOPSIS: Therapy first-timer Claire feels immediately understood by Diana, her sharp and witty therapist. But there are obstacles in the room as patient and doctor come to rely on each other in a way that transcends the office.

SYNOPSIS: Paris 1952. After tangling over politics with an American tourist, a promising art student spirals into a mental breakdown that derails his life. Thirty years later he discovers why: The tourist was a CIA operative, and the student an unwitting participant in one of the darkest chapters of the Cold War. Based on a true story.

SEEKING:

Stan Glickman: moves between mid-late 50s in present day, himself in memory at 25. Jewish but no longer observant.

Sidney Gottlieb: a retired CIA official, mid-60s. Proud of his accomplishments, he is arrogant on the surface, but conceals a nagging conscience he won’t admit to.

Victoria Ortega/Sarah Reeder: Victoria is mid-30s, highly competent lawyer. Doubles as Sarah Reeder, mid-20s Jewish.

Nancy Myer/ Sylvia: Nancy is mid-40s. Doubles as Stan’s older sister Sylvia, ranging in age from her early 30s in memory and early 60s in present day.

Don Birnbaum/Dr. Herman: Don is mid 60s in present day and mid 30s in memory. Doubles as Dr. Herman.

SYNOPSIS: Aislin is getting older. She suffers the inevitable indignities of being human — and hates technology. Stacy, her caregiver is perfectly toned, doesn’t age, and is utterly in control — because she’s an AI entity. And there’s a new algorithm out there called AOS or Approximation of Soul. Does Stacy have it? Oscar nominee and Obie-winning José Rivera examines how we live, die, and form our sense of self in a world that’s increasingly saturated with technology.
