East West Players, the longest running professional theater of color in the US, is seeking Actors for Asian, South East Asian, Asian American and African American roles for it's 56th season.

BREAKDOWN

PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Please record your self tape in FULL FRAME (particularly full body for movement).

Please perform ONE (1) contemporary monologue of your choice. You may also prepare the sides of up to TWO (2) character roles from https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1FTsleAI77woI8h9fP_5DZHIiouu4XnG2?usp=sharing .

If you are auditioning for the role of JAI in THE BROTHERS PARANORMAL, please prepare a one-minute movement piece based on the stage directions located in the side for JAI to show off your physicality.

THE GREAT JHERI CURL DEBATE

SEEKING:

VERALYNN JACKSON - 42, Female. African-American. Long-time resident of this neighborhood. Knows a little something about hair.

MR. KIM - 50, Male. Korean immigrant. Business owner. Lives somewhere else.

JHERI REDDING - 67, Male. White. Born Robert William Redding. Hairdresser, chemist, inventor of The Jheri Curl. Lives in a poster.

LORRAINE - 30, Female. African-American. Female model on all the packaging for the S Curl. Lives in the same poster hugged up with Marvin. Would like to kill him one day.

MARVIN - 30, Male. African-American. Male model sporting the exact same S Curl as Lorraine. Uses way more activator. Also wants out of this arrangement.


THE BROTHERS PARANORMAL

SEEKING:

MAX: 25, Thai American; Born in the U.S. and runs a paranormal investigative business with his brother. Smooth talking. Doesn’t believe in ghosts, but has no problem taking money from people who do.

DELIA: 50s; African American; Born in the U.S. and believes she’s being haunted by a ghost. In a very loving marriage. Displaced after Katrina. Movement background a plus. Character has some physicality in response to haunting sequences.

VISARUT: 39; Thai American; Born in Thailand; immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 13; speaks with a Thai accent; Max’s brother. Very pragmatic with a good sense of humor. Knowing Thai language a plus.

TASANEE: 60; Thai American; Born in Thailand; immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 33; speaks with a Thai accent; Max’s mother. Wise. Mischievous. Has a connection to the spirit world. Knowing Thai language a plus.

FELIX: 50s; African American; Born in the U.S.; Delia’s husband. Has a troubled past. Protective of his wife. Wary of scam artists.

JAI: 20s; a Thai woman. Has dance, acrobatic or other movement background. A ghost. Very few speaking lines, but is facially expressive, ranging from terror to sorrow.
