BREAKDOWN

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Tour)

SEEKING:

BELLE: 20s. Any ethnicity. A classic beauty unaware of her looks. She is intelligent, strong willed, adventurous and heroic. She would never judge a book by its cover and longs for a life outside her little town. Moves very well. A well-trained singer, with the ability to hit a secure soprano F5, and a strong theatre belt up to a sustained C5. Tap skills a plus.

BEAST: 20s-30s. 5’10” or taller. Any ethnicity. Has a classically developed voice (classical acting training helpful). A tortured Prince trapped in the body of a Beast. Angry, volatile and hopeless. He yearns for, but doesn’t know how to find, a love to see through his harsh exterior to his warm, caring, human side in order to break the spell. Lyric baritone or baritenor, capable of sustaining a huge F4.

GASTON: Mid-late 20s. Any ethnicity. Must be 6’ or taller. Very handsome muscular build, sexy, physically dominating. A strong comedic farceur capable of playing a larger than life style. A rude, self-centered bully. Egomaniacal, narcissistic, will go to any lengths to get what he wants. Moves very well. Baritone or Bass-baritone, with a big, rich sound and the ability to sustain a strong F4.

LE FOU: 20s. Any ethnicity. No taller than 5’8”. Gaston’s adoring hanger-on buddy. His entire being is centered around serving Gaston. A buffoon in every sense of the word. A dim wit. Able to handle physical comedy and dance well. Acrobatic skills a plus. Dependable character voice up to a sustained G4.

MRS. POTTS: 30s-40s. Any ethnicity. A kindhearted maternal cook who’s been turned into a sweet-faced English teapot. She takes no guff from anyone. The mother figure of the castle household. Alto or mezzo soprano, with a beautiful and warm sound from F#3 to E5. Cockney accent.

LUMIERE: 30s-40s. Any ethnicity. A charming, very suave, very French Maître D’ who’s been turned into a candelabra by the spell. He fancies himself as a Lady’s man. Passionate, prone to dramatic displays of emotion. The Beast’s coach in the love department. Has a credible French accent. Smooth” baritone voice à la Maurice Chevalier, should be able to sustain to at least an F4. Advanced tap dancer.

COGSWORTH: 30s-40s. Any ethnicity. A manic, officious English majordomo who’s been turned into a clock. Someone wound him up way too tight and he has never wound down. Slightly snooty but with a heart of gold. He thinks he is in charge of the household, but no one ever listens to him. Character voice, should be able to carry a tune well. RP accent.

BABETTE: 20s. Any ethnicity. A beautiful maid in the castle who’s now a feather duster. Continually teases Lumiere. Voluptuous and tall. Must dance. French accent. Should have a very secure voice, able to hold harmony. Will also appear as Townspeople in two ensemble numbers.

WARDROBE: 30s-40s. Any ethnicity. A former opera singer who’s been turned into a wardrobe. Warm, friendly, comedic, vain old girl. Very theatrical. Loud laugh, the matchmaker of the castle. Mezzo, able to hold harmony well. Will also appear as Townspeople in two ensemble numbers.

MAURICE: Mid 40s-50. Any ethnicity. Belle’s father. An eccentric inventor. Comic, warm, sincere and immensely lovable. Devoted to his daughter. Character voice; should be able to carry a tune.

CHIP: Pre-adolescent child, 8–10 years old. 54” tall and 68lbs maximum. Any ethnicity. The adorable, inquisitive child of Mrs. Potts who’s been turned into a teacup by the spell. Needs to have a very secure voice, able to hit a D5. Looking for a very natural-sounding voice.
