SYNOPSIS: This play is a group project for perverts. Somewhere between lecture, re-enactment, and cruising ground, an informative presentation on the history of cleanliness and bathing starts to burst at the seams with the ghosts of a bathhouse at the end of the world. A meditation on queer longing, queer grief, and all our queer worlds that will come to pass, that will come to be.

Place: A 10th grade honors informative presentation in a cafetorium. A school that was once a bathhouse. The glimmers of a bathhouse at the end of the world.

SEEKING:

THE PRESENTER: a 10th grader but not really, played by someone who is undeniably an adult; Mexican; a pervert obsessed with extinctions. Role may require nudity. Doubles as: THE ATTENDANT of a bathhouse at the end of the world; (NOT) LAURA LINNEY; A CUSTOMER / OTHERS as cast.

TRACK 1: CHELA, a bathhouse cleaning woman; Mexican, gives no fucks, perversely maternal, tired. Role may require nudity. Doubles as: JUST HAPPY TO HELP! ARE YOU OKAY? / CHELA / A MARYLIN MONROE TYPE SELLING THE SHIT OUT OF THIS / WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE / A WOMAN IN A RIDICULOUS PERIOD COSTUME / A GHOST UNDER THE STAIRS / ACTUALLY LAURA LINNEY! / THE BATH BEAUTY / OTHERS as cast.

TRACK 2: LONG TIME PUBLIC SPEAKING TEACHER, MX. VASQUEZ, 40s/50s, public school system-entrenched, non-binary and unamused. Generally on autopilot unless jolted awake by the terrible realization that they are still teaching public speaking. Role may require nudity. Doubles as: WILLIAM FEETHAM / THE CDC / A VERY SUPPORTIVE PERSON / A CONQUISTADOR! WEARING ONE OF THOSE HATS! / CDC FEETHAM WEARING A CONQUISTADOR HAT! / AN INSATIABLE COCK GOBLIN, ONE OF HIS BALLS IS ABNORMALLY LARGER THAN THE OTHER / JUST VASQUEZ / GHOST BEHIND THE CLOCK / OTHERS as cast.

TRACK 3: SHAUN, middle-aged, kind, haunted; a bathhouse regular who comes to remember. Role may require nudity. Doubles as: JUST DOING THIS FOR A GRADE / IT’S BEEN A VERY HARD WEEK / MAN IN A TOWEL / GAS CAN (VO?) / SOME MEXICAN THEY HIRED DOING A TERRIBLE SPANISH ACCENT / OTHERS as cast.

TRACK 4: A VERY SMALL CHILD IN THE AUDIENCE, Mexican, trying to find out if it’s safe to shower since his city just ordered a boil-water notice due to widespread contamination. Role may require nudity. Doubles as: SO NERVOUS ABOUT THIS, OH GOD / DANIEL / A WHOLE-ASS ADULT / WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE / A LOOK BUT DON’T TOUCH TYPE / GHOST BEHIND THE DOOR / A VERY REAL TWINK / OTHERS as cast.

TRACK 5: CARLOS, charming, self-involved, likely doing meth, but anyway. Just looking for someone to care for him. Role may require nudity.
