Equity actors age 14+ for roles in 2022-23 season (see breakdown).
Equity Members are encouraged to submit for consideration for all roles. Casting is made per show. This is not a seasonal rep contract. Callbacks will be made per show.
We are actively seeking actors of all ethnicities, identities, and abilities. The Aurora Fox Arts Center is committed to casting choices that represent and celebrate all of our incredibly talented and diverse communities. Unless otherwise required by the script (and therefore reflected in the casting notice), individuals of any and all ages, ethnic identities, racial identities, gender identities or expressions, sizes, spiritual identities, disability statuses and sexual orientations are strongly encouraged to audition!
INSTRUCTIONS
Please record EITHER 2 contrasting contemporary monologues, OR 1 contemporary monologue and 1 song of your choice. Accompaniment available at www.aurorafoxartscenter.org/season38auditions. Submit video via YouTube or Vimeo link, or by uploading to Dropbox or similar filesharing, and EMAIL the link/file to Jen Orf. Please submit video by 10 pm MT on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Strong actors who are also strong vocalists, musicians, strong movers, and capable of bringing vivid, passionate characters to life in an immersive stage setting are encouraged to audition. The actors are the band for the show. While playing an instrument is not required, it is highly encouraged. Please list any, and all, instruments at which you are proficient.
César/Julian – Any gender. 20s – 30s. A young idealistic civil war soldier.
Sammy/Ada Lovelace – Any gender. 20s – 30s. A brilliant, imaginative scientist and poet situated in upper-class Victorian England.
The General – Male identifying, African American. 30s – 50s. A civil war general, weathered by years of war.
The Sergeant – Any gender. 20s to 40s. A rigid and strong-voiced soldier.
The Ensemble – Any gender, age, ethnicity. An orchestra of musicians who also play soldiers and the Society of Scientists.
Eric – Any gender. 20s – 50s. The drummer and a philosopher

Kid – Male identifying. 20s - 30s. We see him at varying ages from 7-13 and as an adult narrator. Engaging, honest and fun.
Male Ensemble – Male identifying. 20s – 30s. He plays the best friend, ages 7-13. A bit quirky, lots of fun. Outgoing with a big imagination.
Female Ensemble (2) – Female identifying. 20s – 30s. She plays multiple roles: girlfriend, teacher, classmates, etc. Comedic and versatile.

TONI STONE

Toni Stone - Female identifying. Black. Late-20s to late-30s. Star player of the Negro Baseball Leagues for nearly a dozen years. Based on a historical figure. Highly personable, athletic, and charismatic. Toni wants to be treated as equal to her male counterparts but is comfortable in her own skin. She demands respect but shuns the idea of receiving special treatment. A person with integrity, grit, and strong comedic chops. Any physical type. Athletic, strong, physical, agile mover.
ENSEMBLE CHARACTERS BELOW (male, Black, various ages and body types) - Eight players on the Indianapolis Clowns, a Negro League baseball team. All are athletic, strong, physical, agile movers. Each actor in the ensemble doubles, playing various characters.
Ensemble/ALBERGA - Age 45-65. A Jamaican businessman and Toni’s eventual husband. In love with Toni’s mind and drawn to her energy. Suave, cocky, and charismatic.
Ensemble/MILLIE - Mid-30s to late-40s. Toni’s female confidant A lady of Madame Mamie’s Gentleman’s Club. Has great comedic timing.
Ensemble/SPEC – Mid-20s to late-30s. Open to a variety of physical body types. The smartest member of the team. Professorial. While he is a great baseball player, Spec is probably better suited to become a doctor or a lawyer, but he was raised to love the game.
Ensemble/KING – Early-30s to early-40s. Open to a variety of physical body types. The celebrity of the team, King has baseball in his blood. Looking for his next opportunity to join the major leagues and tries not to give up on himself. Has a stern sense of humor.
Ensemble/WOODY - Mid-20s to mid-30s. A Casanova that sometimes fails to arouse. Always looking to poke fun at someone or something. He thinks he is the best left-handed pitcher in the league.
Ensemble/STRETCH – Mid-20s to mid-30s. Open to a variety of physical body types. Catcher, team manager, and coach of the Indianapolis Clowns. Stretch is the most talented catcher in the Negro League. Understands his team’s strengths and weaknesses. Organized, plays hard, and perhaps drinks a little.
Ensemble/ELZIE – Mid-30s to mid-40s. A tough talking member of the Indianapolis Clowns whose swagger and macho mannerisms often cover up his closeted sexuality.
Elzie/Ensemble A tough talking member of the Indianapolis Clowns whose swagger and macho mannerisms often cover up his closeted sexuality.
Ensemble/JIMMY – Mid-20s to mid-30s. Open to a variety of physical body types. Newest addition to the Indianapolis Clowns. Plays fast and hard, but not smart. A bit timid and slower than the rest, yet everyone knows his value on the team.
TREASURE ISLAND a New Musical for a New Generation

Jim Hawkins- Male identifying, 15-19. True protagonist, daring, brave, fiercely loyal, curious. Moral, responsible, conscientious, but with strong impulsive streak. Excellent singer. Tenor to A.
Long John Silver- Male identifying, 40+. Charismatic, cunning manipulator; brilliant chameleon. As much loving caretaker as detached serial killer. Physically fit, agile. Baritone.
Squire John Trelawney – Male identifying, 40+. Pompous, arrogant, upright, but lacking discretion. All around blowhard. Tenor to A flat
Doctor David Livesey- Any gender, 40+. Ship’s doctor. Steadfast, courageous, perceptive, loyal. Baritone to F sharp.
Captain Alexander Smollett- Male identifying, 40+. Captain of the Hispaniola; authority figure, moral, honorable, stoic. Baritone to F. Also plays: Billy Bones, wild, drunken, surly sea captain, gruff, sloppy. Baritone/Bass to G
Mother Mary Hawkins – Female identifying. Late-30s – early-40s. Recent widow; strong, opinionated, kind, loving but worn with work & responsibility of her life. Belt/mix to E flat
George Merry – Male identifying, late 40s. Opinionated, ruthless, shares equal thirst for blood & rum. Baritone.
Abraham Gray – Male identifying, 30+. Loyalty lies in question, observer of life. All trappings of good man, but in sinister world. High Baritone to A flat
Dick – Any gender, 20s. Easily persuaded, naïve. Questioning, soulful. Young, green, earnest. Tenor to A
Job Anderson - Male identifying, 40+. Ship’s boatswain. Terrific game player. Loyalty remains in question, duplicitous. Also plays: PEW, male, 40+, blind, creepy beggar. Sings to A
Ben Gunn - Male identifying, 35+. Wild and unpredictable. Excellent physical comedian. Also plays:
O’BRIEN, male, 35+, follower of Silver. Ruthless, without moral reasoning. Sings to to A flat
Israel Hands - Male identifying, 35+. Heartless and isolated. Captain Flint’s gunner at one time, presently the ship’s coxswain. Sharp, methodic. Also plays: BLACK DOG, male, 35+, tall, eerie, prone to violence, short tempered. Baritone/Bass to low F.
