BREAKDOWN
A CHRISTMAS CAROL (LA) submissions
SCROOGE [CAST] (Male, 40-65) Grouchy old miser with a cold-hearted approach to life. His kindness and goodwill are restored after a visit from some wise ghosts. Standard English accent.
SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:
All roles require an English accent. All roles (with the exception of Scrooge) will be asked to sing Christmas carols a cappella. Some roles will also play instruments including cello, mandolin, tin whistle, and accordion. Seeking all ethnicities for all roles.
BOB CRATCHITT (Male, 35-45) An affable man stuck in an ineffable job. He loves his family, he tries to love his boss, he believes if you project happiness in the world you will get happiness back - he's wrong.
MRS CRATCHITT (Female, 30-45) Bob Cratchitt's wife and mother to Tiny Tim. Kind, loving woman, focused on her family and providing what she can considering their poverty. Not a fan of Scrooge. She knows how to cook a goose.
NEWPHEW/FRED (Male, 25-35) A quick witted man who enjoys being fun and playful. He likes a game, he likes a chat, he doesn't do a great deal with his time but lives life lovingly.
LITTLE FAN (Female, 18-28) Soft and sweet and clever, Little Fan is the Jimminy Cricket we all wished we had as a relative. Scrooge's sister and the Ghost of Christmas future. Scrooge is very fond of Fan.
FATHER/MARLEY (Male, 35-55) Marley – Scrooge’s former business partner. A bitter man who bitterly regrets his bitterness. Father - Scrooge and Little Fan’s Father. Alcoholic. Commanding, pathetic, pathetically commanding.
BELLE (Female, 25-40) Cunning, beguiling, both extraordinary and ordinary. Scrooge meets Belle when they are young and falls in love with her. Leaves her behind with promise to return as a rich man and to marry her. Belle grows as Scrooge does, but in an entirely different way.
FEZZIWIG (Male, 40-60) The most joyous undertaker you'll ever meet. Father of Belle. Warm, welcoming man - his house is full of Christmas cheer. Offers the young Scrooge work with the intention of making him an associate and business partner. Scrooge rejects this in his mission to provide more for Belle.
GHOST PAST (Female, 55-75) Sinewy and clever, the first of the ghosts. Takes Scrooge back to his childhood and visits Little Fan, Belle, and Fezziwig through the years. Pensive and cunning but with a sweet Grandma-like appearance.
GHOST PRESENT (Female, 35-45) A giant. With giant ways. She sees the present clearly, mainly because she's so tall. She thinks he's funnier than he is. She enjoys life, which is a wonderful skill in a ghost.
NICHOLAS (Male, 30-40) A good and kind husband to Belle. Same age as Belle. Skills on tin whistle and/or accordion a plus.
JESS (Female, 18-30) City type. Young, playful and competitive. A friend of Scrooge's nephew, Jess is quick witted and a keen game player.
YOUNG EBENEZER (Male, 18-30) The young Scrooge, but not as we know him. Young Ebenezer is playful, bright and energetic despite his sorrow at being left alone at boarding school throughout school holidays. Must play cello.
FERDY/ENSEMBLE (Male, 18-30) City type. Young, playful character.
TINY TIM (Male or Female, 8-12) A seer who carries a disability. Performers with disabilities encouraged to submit.
