Dates: June 20- July 1
NOTE FOR ALL ROLES:
This is a punk rock musical. All singing and musical performances are to be delivered with a punk sensibility.
Sue (Sue-icide): Female, 16-20. A sheltered teenage incest victim from the suburbs. An innocent schoolgirl who retreats from her abusive father through self-cutting. Shy and withdrawn but eager to explore, and with an inner strength and toughness that allows her to transform into an empowered, take-charge street punk. Alto, versatile lead singer, strong punk belter with powerful low range, prefer belt up to D
Mom: Female, 20s. The matriarch of the street tribe, she is the maternal influence on the street kids, acting as their protector as well as their moral compass. She is Sue’s guide through the world of street punk. Alto, versatile lead and ensemble singer, strong punk belter with powerful low range.
PD: Male, 18-25. A flamboyant, witty, street punk. Charismatic, campy and self-aware, he is a snarky street hustler with a brain. Uses sarcasm and wit to hide his overwhelming desire to be cared for. Wide range tenor or Bari-tenor, prefer low G to high A, low notes flexible, strong punk lead and ensemble singer.
Trashley: Female, 18-25.. Mom’s lover. Tough, caustic and streetwise, she projects an outer shell of toughness, but is sensitive and prone to jealousy. She is committed to her street family and threatened by the arrival of Sue. Alto, versatile lead singer, strong punk belter with powerful low range, prefer belt up to D
Nosmo: Male, 18-25. A street musician junkie and the heart of the punk tribe. Warm, sensitive and sweet-natured, he is the balladeer who takes us through Sue’s story. Caught in the struggle between his addiction and his hunger to make music. Wide range tenor or Bari-tenor, strong punk lead and ensemble singer. Guitar skills a plus.
Special Ed: Male, late 20s to early 30s. Usually functions a few steps behind the rest of the tribe, he is a man of few words, but occasionally chimes in with a gem of unexpected wisdom. Tenor or Bari-Tenor, high A, strong punk lead and ensemble singer.
Big John: Male, early 40s. Overweight and a bit nerdy, he is insecure about his appearance and uses male prostitutes as his sexual outlet. A regular client of PD’s, he is sweet and self-effacing, and would make someone a great husband if he could get out of his own way. Baritone.
Niko: Male, late 20s to early 30s. The neighborhood drug dealer and pimp. Easygoing and laid back, but can turn vicious with no warning. Inherently threatening and prone to violence, he is a smiling cobra who is always looking for the next score. Baritone.
Polly: Transsexual, late 20s to late 30s. A streetwise tranny hooker who is under the thumb of her pimp. Sarcastic and tough, but there’s a heart underneath all the snark. If played by a male actor, must be comfortable working in women’s clothing.
Officer Hill: Male, early 40s. A tough, sometimes violent street cop. World-weary and a little jaded, he’s been on this beat for years and has seen it all. He maintains a delicate relationship with Mom and the street punks, but is ready to come down on them at a moment’s notice.
Officer Renko: Male, early 40s,. The good cop to Hill’s bad cop, he is good natured and affable. A longtime figure on the street, he’s seen it all and knows how to navigate the code of the street.
Sue’s Mother: Female, late 30s. A suburban mother, aware of the abuse that is going on under her roof, and tortured by her inability to stop it. Soprano.or Mezzo, strong lead singer.
