In the Next Room (Or, The Vibrator Play) by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Jacob Offen, is set in a Victorian home at the dawn of the electrical age. Dr. Givings enthusiastically treats patients diagnosed with hysteria using a new medical invention, while remaining unaware of the growing emotional distance between himself and his wife, Catherine. By turns humorous and heartfelt, the play examines the intersection of technology, desire, and the courage it takes to truly understand one another.
