About this studio
DeMa Dance Company is a Brooklyn-based performing company founded by sisters Despina and Matina Simegiatos, both longtime instructors and resident choreographers at the Vicky Simegiatos Performing Arts Center. The company fuses ballet, jazz and modern dance in narrative and non-narrative works exploring universal human themes, performed by a physically and culturally diverse group of dancers. Yesid Lopez, a Colombian-trained dancer formerly with Steps Repertory Ensemble and Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, serves as artistic director and resident choreographer, and the company has presented work by guest choreographers including Tyce DiOrio, Sonya Tayeh and Billy Bell. Despina also founded the VSPAC Competition Division and, with Matina, the METRO Talent Competition. The company is sponsored by Body Wrappers.
