The Joffrey Ballet

The Joffrey Ballet, founded in 1956 by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino, is a Chicago-based professional company with a roster of artists from more than 13 countries; its season performances are staged at the Lyric Opera House. Alongside the company it runs the Grainger Academy of The Joffrey Ballet, founded in 2010, which teaches students of all ages, levels and backgrounds on a foundation of classical ballet from studios at 10 East Randolph Street and the South Loop Studios on South Wabash Avenue. Its Joffrey for All track covers the Children's Program (ages 2-12+), the flexible-schedule Dance Lab (9-18), the Pre-Professional Program (12-18), an Adaptive Program for students with diverse movement abilities, and an Adult Division for ages 15 and up. Full-time, audition-based professional training comprises the Conservatory, Ballet Trainee and Contemporary Ballet Trainee programs and the Joffrey Studio Company. Summer programs, group master classes and a large Chicago Public Schools community engagement program round out the offering.
