About this studio
The School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza is a non-profit cultural center at 1700 Alum Rock Avenue in East San Jose whose stated mission is to champion community heritage and resiliency through arts and culture. Its Arts Education Program serves more than 900 students a year, ages 6 to 18, most of whom would otherwise have little access to arts education, through classes in music, dance and visual arts. Dance instruction is Mexican folkloric, delivered through a long-running partnership with Cashion Cultural Legacy. The school-year program runs progressive ten-week sessions in autumn, winter and spring, and two summer camp sessions offer children aged 6 to 12 full nine-hour days of creative work. The Plaza also hosts festivals, a theatre and venue rentals.
