About this studio
Kalaawishkar Dance School teaches Bharatanatyam, the classical South Indian dance form, and has served the San Jose Bay Area since 2006, marking its 25th anniversary year. It is led by founder and director Guru Shraddha Joglekar, who describes the form as involving intricate footwork, expressions and hand gestures, and a means for students to emote and find themselves. Teaching runs across three studio locations: Dance Arts Academy on Winfield Blvd in San Jose, CPAA on Bollinger Rd, and the Healing Place Studio on Blossom Hill Rd. Alongside dance technique the curriculum incorporates more than twenty stretches and yoga activities and the chanting of shlokas, with stated aims of spiritual grounding, physical wellness and confident expression.
