The Northeast Academy of Dance (NEAD) is a professional school of dance in Oscoda, Michigan, on the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base, established in 1997 by co-founders and directors Giuseppe Canale and Scott Heinrich. It specializes in ballet and modern dance and teaches using the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum. The school has roughly 60 students drawn locally as well as from around the state, nationally and internationally, and its facility has two studios with sprung floors, large windows and air conditioning. Its philosophy centers on letting each student explore their own abilities, building respect for ballet and modern dance, physical health and self-esteem, with a professional path available to those who want it.
