About this studio
Maryland Youth Ballet has trained dancers at 926 Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring since 1971, preparing students for careers in the performing arts while also serving dancers of all ages and levels and presenting award-winning ballet performances for the region. Deidre Byrne is artistic director and principal. The school-year program runs from a Children's division of early dance and introductory classes for ages 2-9, through a Youth division covering Levels 1-3 for ages 8-12, a Pre-Professional division covering Levels 4-8 for ages 11-18, and MYB Extension teen classes and electives for ages 12-18; an audition or beginner check is required for new students aged 8 and over. The adult program offers ballet, stretch and Floor Barre for first-timers through professionals aged 13 to 90-plus, with drop-in classes seven days a week year-round. Summer courses run for both children and academy-level students. Community work includes JumpStart, Music & Motion, Dance for PD and a partnership with DTSBDC, and the studio has live accompaniment and rentable space.
