About this studio

Ballet After Dark is a Baltimore, Maryland trauma-informed nonprofit rather than a conventional dance school. Founded and directed by Tyde-Courtney Edwards, a Baltimore native, classically trained ballerina and survivor of sexual assault, it provides trauma-informed care, education, direct resources and workshops to youth affected by trauma and sexual violence. Its focus areas are menstrual and reproductive health equity, workforce development for young women, arts as healing through dance and movement, and policy advocacy. Signature programs for ages 7 to 24 include the BAD Ballet Fellowship for 18-24 year olds in Baltimore City, BAD Camp immersive summer camp for ages 7-12 and 13-17, and the Periodt! menstrual education workshops for teens. The organization also runs the BAD Ballet Dance Company, whose youth dancers receive paid performance opportunities and leadership training, and hosts free community open ballet classes plus a winter fundraiser gala each December. Programs are hosted at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center, 847 N. Howard St.
