About this studio
Mark DeGarmo Dance is a New York City non-profit founded by Dr. Mark DeGarmo, based in a studio theater at 107 Suffolk Street on the Lower East Side, that combines dance performance with arts education and intercultural community work. Rather than running open studio classes, its education arm builds multi-year partnerships with NYC public elementary schools, delivering interdisciplinary dance arts and literacy instruction to children from prekindergarten through 5th grade. It works with Title 1 schools that lack arts and physical education resources, serving student populations that are nearly all BIPOC and recent immigrants, with a focus on English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
