Kohls Janes School of Dance

Kohl Academy of Performing Arts at 1908 Gunter Avenue in Guntersville, Alabama has operated since 2002, offering professional dance instruction in a structured curriculum that stresses proper technique and standard terminology. The syllabus starts with Tiny Dancers for ages 3-5, a ballet and tap combination requiring no prior training, and Shining Stars for ages 5-7 with separate ballet, jazz and ballet/tap combination options. From age 7 dancers progress through five graded Ballet/Tap/Jazz levels, with Pointe and Pre-pointe from age 11 for students with at least three years of ballet, and Lyrical/Contemporary from age 7 with ballet required. Dance Acrobatics for ages 4-7 and 7-up is taught by an Acrobatic Arts certified instructor, and a Musical Theatre class for third grade and up focuses on Broadway-style performance, stage presence and storytelling. The academy also teaches vocal and beginner piano, adult ballet, a turn intensive, and fields the Dance Extensions Company and Mini Company competition teams. Class sizes are capped at 10-12 dancers.
