About this studio
Dance South Studio enters its 37th year with the 2026-2027 season, serving the North Shelby County community from 316 Foothills Drive in Chelsea, Alabama, just off Highway 280. Owner Nena Maniscalco began the school in autumn 1989 as an after-school activity at Inverness Elementary and later built a purpose-designed facility. The 9,100 square foot building holds three studio rooms with sprung floors. Faculty teach ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical and contemporary, hip hop, acro, clogging and technique, plus an adult tap and hip hop fitness class, at beginner through advanced levels. Both recreational and competitive team tracks are offered, and dancers appear each year in multi-show recital productions at the BJCC in Birmingham.
