About this studio
Jean Appolon Expressions (JAE) is a non-profit dance organization working in the Boston area and in Haiti, dedicated to sharing Haitian folkloric dance as a means of hope, healing and social justice. Built around the work of Haitian-born choreographer Jean Appolon, JAE presents professional performances, delivers educational programming and runs community workshops. Its activities include weekly classes, a Community Dancers Group, the JAE Dance Center and a Summer Dance Institute offering youth training in Roxbury and Haiti, with financial support available so cost does not bar participation. The company also tours repertory works, among them Traka and the premiere of Pouvwa, and publishes a cultural equity statement describing its anti-racist practice.
