BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON at Winspear Opera House
by Jared West - December 22, 2016
When you think of SOUTH PARK and its no-holds-barred, foul-mouthed humor, you don't tend to think of stories of faith and hope. But, when writers Trey Parker and Matt Stone (along with Robert Lopez of AVENUE Q and FROZEN fame) got together to write a musical based on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (better known as Mormons), that's exactly what resulted. THE BOOK OF MORMON is a satirical masterpiece - and it has become a Broadway sensation.

BWW Review: GLORIA at Dee And Charles Wyly Theatre
by Aaron Zilbermann - December 20, 2016
Trauma, in all of its forms and embodiments, can affect all of us in a variety of ways. Gloria by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, a finalist for the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and nominated for the 2016 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play, which opened on Wednesday December 7th at the Dallas Theater Center, explores that unique response to trauma to each individual, and how our experiences affect us moving forward. Gloria is a play about perspectives and stories and who owns those stories. Who has the right to tell them? This dark, dramatic comedy shocks the audience into introspection about life, mental health, and the way we treat each other as a society.

Photo Flash: Meet the Cast of LAUGH at Theatre Three
by BWW News Desk - December 19, 2016
Directed by newly named Theatre Three Artistic Director Jeffrey Schmidt, Laugh focuses on two innocents, Mabel and Roscoe, as they set off for Hollywood circa 1920 seeking fame and fortune. The kaleidoscopic array of characters they meet along the way threatens their quest for happiness on the silver screen. Ms. Henley has created a modern day Odyssey where nothing and no one is exactly as they seem. Written with a glorious ear for dialogue and style to burn, Laugh is a truly compelling and fascinating fable. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the company in character!

Daxton Bloomquist of THE BOOK OF MORMON at Winspear Opera House
by Kyle Christopher West - December 16, 2016
Last week, I caught up with Daxton Bloomquist, who is not only a leading player among the cast of THE BOOK OF MORMON tour, but a long-time member of the musical's family. While walking his dog through Louisville, Kentucky ('a surprisingly nice city'), Daxton shared his experience of being on Broadway and on the road with the hit musical. This will be the first time he's part of the company that comes to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and he is very excited for that opportunity. Reuniting with his Dallasite sister, niece and nephew over the holidays, he exclaimed that this visit is '...like my dream.'

BWW Review: BROADWAY CHRISTMAS WONDERLAND at Music Hall At Fair Park
by Aaron Zilbermann - December 14, 2016
Perhaps it's because I'm a Jew, bringing my two Jew daughters (age six) to a Christmas musical, or perhaps it's the fact that a strong majority of the Christmas songs presented in Broadway Christmas Wonderland were, in fact, written by Jews, however when sitting down to enjoy this show, it quickly becomes obvious that a person doesn't have to be a Christian or celebrate Christmas to enjoy this musical at the Music Hall at Fair Park. The cast is filled with unbelievably skilled dancers and singers, and the stage presence of all six of the leads is delightful and carried with strength.

by Kyle Christopher West - December 07, 2016
In August 2015, the a cappella group Pentatonix visited Dallas as an opening act for superstar Kelly Clarkson, although which act received more vocal support is certainly up for discussion. Fast-forward a year later, and the popular group just made a return stop in town - only this time, they were the headliner of an epic evening at the massive American Airlines Center.
