Lalovavi is a world premiere Afrofuturist grand opera with music by Kevin Day and libretto by Tifara Brown, presented as part of Cincinnati Opera's 2026 Summer Festival. It is the inaugural work of The Black Opera Project, a first-of-its-kind multiyear commissioning initiative creating three full-length operas celebrating the Black American experience. The production is shepherded through Cincinnati Opera's long-running creative partnership with the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
