Bernard Pomerance’s The Elephant Man is a play based on the true life story of John Merrick, a severely deformed man in Victorian London who is rescued from a sideshow by Dr. Frederick Treves. It explores humanity, dignity, and exploitation, as Merrick is integrated into high society but struggles to define his own identity and normality.
