On August 23-24 and August 30-31st at 2pm, Great Lakes Operetta will present a one-hour classical music performance of a never-recorded, rarely-performed production of Prince Ananias (1894) at Devonshire Cultural Center in Skokie. Notably, this work was the first operetta composed by Victor Herbert (1859-1924), the “Grandfather of American Musical Theatre.” This original version is specially adapted for children and families and includes a short educational talk about this important work of American musical history and to introduce the next generation to the joys of live theatre and classical music. After the show, children in the audience will be able to interact with and ask questions of the performers and creative team. Included in the admission is a post-show photo opportunity with the cast as well as a mini-Renaissance Faire experience with activities and crafts!
General admission tickets ($21) can be purchased in advance or at the door if still available. For groups of 30 or more that are based in schools or coops, we will offer a discounted rate of $15 a person. Group Tickets must be purchased in person or over the phone. 847-674-1500 ext. 2400.
