Chicago Opera Theater is set to present the Chicago premiere of Kurt Weill's Der Silbersee, a powerful anti-fascist musical originally banned by the Nazis shortly after its 1933 debut. Directed by Lawrence Edelson and featuring a cast led by Chaz'men Williams-Ali as Severin and Justin Hopkins as Olim, the production intertwines poignant storytelling with Weill’s extraordinary music, navigating themes of redemption and the human condition. The performance runs from March 4 to March 8 at the Studebaker Theater and will be presented in German with English supertitles. Accompanying events will explore the historical context and relevance of this groundbreaking work.
