Audiences are raving about The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham

There are only two more chances to see Chris Causer & Jenilee Houghton's new play, "The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham's Magical, Miracle, Sure-Cure for All Female Weaknesses" playing at the Annoyance Theatre on Thursdays at 8pm. Audiences have been raving about this hilarious, emotional, moving piece of theatre that celebrates one woman's journey to overcome the hate people feel empowered to spread when they can hide behind anonymity. The relatability and heart within Houghton's script paired with Causer's masterful storytelling form along with Todd Risenmay's gorgeous original music are driving audiences to return week after week to see the show again and again.

After seeing "The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham", Vivi Varon commented, "I loved the show. (It's) a truly fantastic piece of art that told a story I loved and needed to hear. Moving performances like this help bri! ng more love into the world and make way for positive change."

Another audience member, Mark Bjorkquist added, "That was absolutely amazing. What an emotional ride! So much laughter, followed by some heart-wrenching, and then more laughing. Thank you for that trip!"

After photographing the show, Hána Shapiro wrote the playwright to say, "The ability of the show to stay light-hearted while discussing extremely complex ideas was transformative. I wrote down some lines from (the play) that I'll remember if I'm in a dark place. I feel empowered."

Playwright, Jenilee Houghton commented, "I'm incredibly moved by the feedback we've been receiving from the audiences so far. Obviously, Lydia's story really resonated with Chris and I, but I never dreamt that our work would be touching people in such a profound and personal way."

In addition to a story that's been moving people to laughter, tears and everything in between; the visuals of the play are creating quite a buzz as well. Audiences watching the show are transported to another time filled with gorgeous grit and texture. The intricate detail of the costumes and props all washed through a dreamy lighting landscape allow the audience to lose themselves as they travel this timeless journey alongside an incredible ensemble of storytellers.

Two more performances: April 11th and 18th at 8pm at The Annoyance Theatre. For more information and tickets, visit: https://theannoyance.com/events/event/the-ballad-of-lydia-pinkham
